Why Zero Point Stability Controls Installation Quality

Installation Orientation and Flow Direction


Liquid service: install the meter with the flow tubes down or horizontal. The meter must stay full. Do not install a liquid meter at the highest point of a line where gas pockets can collect.


Gas service: the tubes should face upward so condensate drains away. Slurry or high viscosity service: keep the meter vertical with upward flow if possible. Vibration, Pulsation, and External Stress

Perform zero calibration after the meter is installed, wired, and filled with process fluid at zero flow. Close the downstream isolation valve. Allow the fluid temperature to stabilize for at least 15 minutes for small lines and up to 1 hour for DN80 and larger. Make sure no bubbles are present. Then start the zero calibration from the transmitter menu or a HART handheld.


After the zero routine finishes, check the live zero point value. A good value is typically below 0.05 percent of full scale for DN15 to DN50 in liquid service. For larger meters the acceptable value depends on the model and process conditions. Record the value. Repeat the check after the first week of production.
